Day 2: CV to Antigua

1/18/2013

Miles  (Distances calculated on a straight line by GPS)
Covered to date:                  168
Remaining to Antigua:   1941 (less than 2000 to go :-)

Weather:
Overcast with patches of sunshine
27° C

Wind: 9-20 knots
Seas: 1-3 meter swells

Sailing:
The wind picked up at 20h30 last night and we’ve been sailing ever since with just the head sail during the night and we added the main sail first thing this morning.
Crew Well-Being and Morale:
Very good.  We fell easily back into the ‘Krasno Watch System’ (3 hour watches at night and 4 hour ones during the day).  Queasiness mostly gone.

Lunch:           Ham and cheese sandwiches
Dinner:         Leftover beef tagine with cous-cous and Alan’s garlic bread

Of Special Interest:
•       We had our friends aboard 'Tiare Moana' sailing alongside us for a good part of the night--lovely to see the lights of another boat in the dark.
•       Alan caught two more fish, but they rudely declined the invitation to be our dinner—we suspect we’re going too fast to land these fish, but we need to make good time at the moment more than we need dinner options.

‘Delight’ of the day:  Alan for trying to land such inconsiderate fish, for cleverly fixing our fishing net with a wire hanger AND for making us garlic bread.

I remember sitting at the Helm at night, it's magical. Also seeing folks you know in the middle of the ocean, that's most excellent.
